Our budget requests to the Lord Mayor for 2017-18

Each year, I make a submission to the Lord Mayor to outline all the local projects that I as the local Councillor believe need funding in Brisbane City Council's Annual Budget for the coming financial year. As well as a long list of everything that needs improving, I identify my top priorities and advocate specifically for these projects to be funded.

Here's the short list of my top priorities for this year:

  • Pedestrian safety upgrades along Gladstone Road in Highgate Hill and Dutton Park

  • Acquire additional land for multiple small parks, particularly in Woolloongabba and Dutton Park

  • Green boulevard plantings through Highgate Hill

  • Major flood mitigation and stormwater drainage works in East Brisbane and Woolloongabba

  • Further funding for the Woolloongabba and Kangaroo Point bikeway projects

  • Complete redesign of Stones Corner Roundabout and pedestrian safety upgrades around Cleveland St

  • Complete missing links of the Kangaroo Point Riverwalk between Dockside and Mowbray Park, East Brisbane

  • Install a signalised pedestrian crossing over Vulture St near Longlands St, East Brisbane

  • Install ramps in the Story Bridge pedestrian underpass at Kangaroo Point

  • Redesign footpaths and bike lanes around the river to reduce conflicts between cyclists and pedestrians

  • Redesign the intersection of Victoria St and Montague Rd, West End

  • Redesign the intersection of Vulture St and Montague Rd, West End

  • Repairing and upgrading local traffic calming in West End

  • Install safe, separated bike lanes along Vulture and Stanley Streets between East Brisbane and West End

  • Install a new CityCat terminal or other high-capacity public transport service for the Montague Road high-density precinct

  • Upgrade West End Library to include disability-accessible toilets

  • Upgrade the West End public pontoon and boat ramp facilities

  • Upgrade South Bank public boat facilities

  • Upgrade Musgrave Park Public Swimming Pool

Unfortunately the LNP has allocated funding to very few of these projects, but I'm pleased that I've managed to get some of them included. You can go back to the main budget blog to see the full list of budget allocations for the Gabba Ward.
