Roving Conspiracy: Music, Art, Politics and Home-Made Chai

On the first Monday of each month, we're putting on a relaxed, community-centric event featuring live music, a pop-up art gallery, cheap chai, and reasonably comfortable seating.

Our hope is to offer a hub for creatively-minded people to meet and collaborate, as well as a place where fledgling artists and performers can get exposure in front of an open and appreciative audience. We're also keen for it to serve as a space for people to inform themselves about political activism and keep updated about ongoing protest actions.

To keep things interesting (and reduce noise complaints), we're going to change venues as often as we can, moving from one house to another. Check out the Facebook event each month for the address.

The night kicks off at 6pm (but you can arrive/leave whenever you please). The pop-up art gallery will feature local visual artists. We'll also present a variety of performances throughout the evening, from solo singer-songwriters, to comedians and poets, to high-energy funk bands. There's a community announcements section around 7:30pm where anyone can have 2 minutes at the mic to share info about events, projects and important issues. If you want to perform as part of the open mic segment at the start of the evening, please arrive by 6pm.

If you're interested in performing a longer set, or exhibiting artwork in the gallery, post up in the comments below or come say hi to one of the organisers on the night. We try to give everyone an opportunity to perform, but there are lots of keen musos around so please be patient and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Having said all that, this event is also about breaking down traditional barriers between performers and audience members. We usually have an acoustic jam at the end of the night, so bring your instruments. No matter what your level of ability is, you're welcome to participate. (And of course you're also welcome to arrive early/stay late to help us set up/clean up the space.)

Entry is free. Chai is $2 but you have to wash your own mug (bring your own from home if you like). This is a safe, all-ages event, so families and under-18s are welcome. Remember that everyone involved in this event is a volunteer, so please be respectful and clean up after yourself.
