Too many public spaces in our city are hot and barren, dominated by concrete and bitumen. But positive change is possible.
If you're frustrated with the lack of comfortable public spaces available for gathering in the Fortitude Valley area, join local residents of this area as they take over 'Concrete Corner' & sett up an enjoyable space for the local community to come together and enjoy the sunshine, and maybe even find connection in shared experiences.
We'll be transforming the space with greenery & setting up the following for everyone to enjoy together:
🛋️ Chillout space with picnic blankets and seats
🌭 Free BBQ (vegan & gluten-free friendly)
🎨 Art jam & chalking space
🎼 Music jam space
♟️ Board game space
🗣️ We're Not Really Strangers table
Come along & visit for an hour, or hang out in the park all afternoon - whatever feels good to you. You're encouraged to bring:
🪑 Your favourite comfy cushion or chair
🎻 An instrument to participate in the music jam space
🥗 Some food to share
Please share this event with friends & RSVP using the panel on this page, so we can ensure there's plenty of yummy food to go around.
♿ Accessibility: Brunswick Street Park is an open flat concrete space, with ramps up from pedestrian crossings on Brunswick St & Saint Paul's Terrace. There are no public toilets available in this space but Netherworld Arcade is <50m away & wheelchair accessible (small ramp at door) and have kindly agreed to allow us use of their facilities during the event.
As this event will be taking place on the corner of two busy streets and include both acoustic and amplified music, wearing ear buds is encouraged, particularly for those with sensory sensitivities.
Wherever we are in Brisbane, we meet on the occupied lands of the Jagera and Turrbal peoples. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and that many past wrongs and ongoing injustices are yet to be rectified.
