Election Training 3: Effective ways to engage voters at the booth

This election the Greens are perched to win up to 7 seats at Brisbane City Council. In countless other wards across the city, campaigns have been more active than ever before; doorknocking, letterboxing, hosting stalls and forums, in many cases for the very first time.

We know from the federal election results that we have a massive chance of drawing out huge swings across the city, but Council elections bring their own challenges that we have to prepare for. Without mandatory preferential voting, we know that it's going to come down to just a handful of votes in each ward.

With 1 in 7 people still undecided when they go to vote, having a strong volunteer presence on election day and during pre poll can make the difference to getting over the line. But in order to make the most of our volunteers we need to be ready, and confident, to engage voters at the booth.

This session is broken into 2 parts:

3:00pm - 4:00pm: Effective ways to engage voters at the booth - for everyone

  • Why Election Day + Pre Poll is so important
  • What to expect at the polling booth
  • Strategies for engaging voters
  • Messaging and effective persuasive tools

4:00pm - 4:30pm: Managing your volunteers at the Booth - optional

This second session is designed specifically for booth captains and volunteer leaders (doing more than 1 shift on election day or during pre poll)

  • Your responsibilities as a booth captain
  • How to train, manage and support volunteers across the day
  • Making the most of visibility and volunteer placement
  • When to contact your team/ or candidate for support!
