Regenerate Brisbane Forum: How do we make public transport a genuine alternative?

Posted on Events by Jonathan Sri Sriranganathan · February 17, 2023 11:26 AM

On the northside, cars are considered the most convenient, reliable and safest option to get around. But cars are expensive to own, take up a disproportionate amount of space in our cities, contribute to climate change, and are a constant source of frustration through traffic.

What's getting in the way of providing reliable alternatives? What needs to happen to encourage people to choose public transport over cars? Why haven't we improved service frequency, reliability, and accessibility? How do we make people feel safer on public transport?

What should Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Regional Councils be doing to improve public transport on the northside?

Join Federal Member for Ryan, Elizabeth Watson-Brown MP, alongside Councillor Jonathan Sriranganathan, for afternoon tea and community discussion of actions our local government can take to address public transport issues. What are your thoughts and ideas? Bring them to the discussion forum on Saturday 25 March!

This forum is part of Regenerate Brisbane, a series exploring how we can positively transform our city from the bottom up.

This event is taking place on the stolen country of the Jagera and Turrbal people.

We pay respects to elders past and present, and we recognise that conversations about development and gentrification must be grounded in the recognition that these phenomena are part of an ongoing process of colonisation and extractive exploitation.
